80 Year Old Scores 5th 200 inch Buck in 5 Seasons, Red Snapper Anglers Shafted Yet Again & Turning Your Property into A Whitetail Magnet

81 year old Don Holden is on some kind of hot streak, having take a 200 inch buck in each of the past 5 seasons. We are thrilled to have the seasoned hunter drop in to reflect on whitetail hunting in South Texas today vs 60 years ago when you used to be able to trade a hindquarter of your harvest to the land owner in exchange for hunting rights. We also discuss how Don and his son Brett have been able to consistently grow 200 inch bucks on their free range lease in Maverick County.

Next we talk red snapper with TPWD Coastal Fisheries Director Robin Reichers. Recreational anglers will see a 3 day only season for Federal Water red snapper this summer. This is criminal when the fishery is as vibrant as it’s ever been. Robin explains how an outdated and archaic outline from the National Marine Fisheries Service continues to hurt recreational snapper fisherman. The days of anglers like you or I landing huge red snapper like this one might be all but gone, and not because the fishery is depleted.

We wrap up the broadcast by visiting with outdoor writer Michael R Shea. We discuss his recent article “Welcoming Whitetails” which breaks down some techniques on how to turn your property into a whitetail deer magnet. We discuss everything from understanding natural browse vs food plots, to clear cuts and even wind mapping your place using bubbles and milkweeds. Fascinating stuff!
