Synopsis of Episode 80:
Well dove season is almost here, but some folks in the South Zone are kinda ticked off about the September 24th opener- and rightfully so. It’s the latest South Zone opener ever. TPWD Migratory Game Bird and Waterfowl Program Leader Dave Morrison makes a return visit to the show. TPWD actually petioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to let us open the season a week earlier- but that request fell on deaf ears. Dave talks about that frustration as well as our state’s first ever early resident Canada goose season. Honkers are quite adaptable and have been know to take up residence on golf courses and other urban settings. Hopefully the early season will help to thin some of those numbers.
The Staind frontman and rock n’ roll icon Aaron Lewis drops in to talk about his love for the outdoors. Aaron not only a passionate supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but he also is eaten up with hunting whitetail bucks! He has even appeared on outdoor TV shows such as The Bone Collector and Drury’s Celebrity Dream Season . Some of ya’ll might also be aware that Aaron released his debut country album last spring and even collaborated with greats George Jones and Charlie Daniels on the hit single ‘Country Boy’. What does Aaron think of Obama’s administration, what’s it like being a conservative minded constitutionalist in a liberal based music industry? All that and a whole lot more…
We round out the show by checking in with Texas Deer Association’s Vance Runnels. The TDA’s 13th Annual Convention takes place the 10th-14th of this month at the JW Marriot in San Antonio. Vance talks about the one of a kind event celebrating deer and deer breeding in Texas.
