We’ve all seen the massive red stag that New Zealand is know for. Most of those come off of high fence game preserves though. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I’d love to do that hunt someday. But what does the average New Zealander experience as far as hunting culture is concerned? Do they get to pursue red stag, chamios and tahr that their country is famous for? Does their hunting occur on private or public land? What about recent restrictions on what kinds of guns they are allowed to own? Do those restrictions impact wildlife populations?
After stumbling across Keegan Walsh’s Instagram feed, I knew he was the perfect fella to have a conversation with regarding all those questions. He lives and breaths hunting just like the rest of us. I always enjoy understanding the hunting traditions and culture from other parts of the world. You can follow along in his adventures at @vegan.keegan.hunting
