Matt Kenney joins the conversation on this episode. He’s a third generation Arizonan and veteran. Matt attended Arizona State University where he obtained his bachelor of arts degree and served in the ASU Sun Devil ROTC Battalion. He was commissioned into the Army in 2007 as an active-duty infantry officer. He served in Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal with Valor for his service there. While in the Army, Matt served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Deputy Operations Officer, Company Commander and instructor. After his honorable discharge in 2013 Matt went back to Arizona State University to attend Law School.
During law school, Matt began volunteering for veterans organizations and was leading a veteran advocacy organization when the 2014 VA Scandal occurred. As a result, Matt organized hundreds of veterans to advocate for VA reform in Arizona and Washington DC.
Matt currently serves on the Veterans Advisory Commission which oversees Arizona Department of Veteran’s Services and on the AZ Attorney General’s Veteran and Military Families Advisory Board. He also serves as a member of the AZ Chamber of Commerce, Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations and Arizona Defense and Industry Coalition. We discuss his volunteer efforts with great organizations like Smokeless Vets. He also recounts some combat tales from Iraq and we mix in a little hunting and fishing as well.
