We live in the craziest time in human history and the outdoor industry isn’t immune to that reality. Outdoor Life has long been one of my favorite publications. I’ve interviewed many of their writers multiple times over the past 15 years, as well as done shows on various subjects/individuals featured in said writings. So when I read the recent feature “Harris Walz Campaign Launches Coalition of Hunters and Anglers as It Tries to Appeal to Rural Men” I was initially taken aback. Compound my issues with the piece with the fact that the author has made financial contributions to Democrat Senator Jon Tester in his 2024 re-election campaign and I was a bit disappointed. Apparently many of you guys were as well.

On this edition of Campfire Conversations Outdoor Life Editor and Chief Alex Robinson joins me to answer the tough questions and attempt to clear the air on why the piece was published and why he felt OL needed to issue a follow up piece to explain their philosophical beliefs on covering politics within the outdoor space. Make no mistake, the majority of hunters and gun owners vote red, and that fact isn’t lost on Alex. Hope you enjoy what I believe to be a very honest discussion on the fall out and reaction to the recent OL feature and their plans addressing politics moving forward.
