Nothing brings me more satisfaction than watching my kids enjoy the great outdoors. So when Stella told me back during dove season that she wanted to shoot her first deer this fall, I was obviously thrilled. Of course there’s also a level of anxiety that comes along with taking a kid on their first hunt where they are the one actually behind the trigger. What if she wounds it? What if she misses? What if she really isn’t ready to take another living creature’s life? How do you handle those situations so that she will still want to do it again? All those thoughts cross your mind as a parent.
Anyway, at 9 years old Stella said she was ready so we loaded up the truck and headed to the lease. Her pink Mossberg .243 riding shotgun next to my .300 Win Mag. You’ll have to listen to find out how it all played out but needless to say, it was weekend I won’t ever forget. There’s something uniquely special about fathers and daughters in the outdoors.
Next, our good friend Ben Cassidy – VP of Government Affairs at Safari Club International joins us to discuss what the November red wave means for sportsmen and conservation going forward. Will the Trump administration be able to easily overturn some of the anti scientific rules/restrictions put in place by a failed Biden appointment in the form of current Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland? Will sportsmen have President Trump’s ear in his upcoming administration? We also get into Ben’s fall hunting plans and his recent red stag hunt where he used a .50 caliber air gun. (Potential SCI world record with an airgun).
