Former Texas Parks and Wildlife Director of Hunter Education Robert Ramirez joins me to discuss SB 1236 – the biggest anti hunting bill to ever pass in Texas history. As of September 1st, 2023, Texas sportsmen and women will no longer legally be allowed to rifle or bow hunt our state’s navigable water ways (rivers/streams) and their beds. The law allowing hunters to utilize the estimated 190,000 miles and over 650,000 acres (conservative estimates) was in place since the 1830s. Now, gone in the blink of an eye.
How did this happen with a Republican house, senate and governor? How did the hunting community not know anything about it? Literally, there was ZERO resistance and no PR covering the proposed bill. The hunting community was caught with our collective pants around our ankles. Robert explains how this happened and what it means going forward. Is there any hope at all to get this overturned after having been signed by the governor?
Then we spend some time talking land management and whitetail deer with Stealth Cam’s Chris Dunkin. The Iowa native is no stranger to killing big midwestern bucks, but he is learning on the fly as far as deer management goes. Chris discusses something he learned last fall as far as why some young studs left his property. We also get into turkeys, neighbors, food plots and the latest Stealth Cam models like the new Deceptor No Glow cell cam. (Photo taken at my West Texas deer lease)
